Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger Hunt, originally uploaded by Mountainsong.

Look at this great loot I got from my Scavenger Hunt swap partner, Annemarie {{ }} from Atlanta. I forgot to put the jar of peach salsa in the photo :-(( Awesome stuff. Thank you soooo much Annemarie ( I love you and your sis’s blog too) I would have put this up earlier, but it has taken me hours, and I do mean hours to get my fickr account set up to blog with. Easy now though, to post photos. I may learn this blogging thing yet.

It’s been a busy week, where does the time go?  I’ve been getting things for my swappartner, paying bills, working, going shopping, cooking, all sorts of things, but writing in my blog.  Home today with a sick child.  he’s almost 15, but had a fever and I don’t like to leave him home alone when he has a fever.  Nikki is going to buy my DSLR.  I’m glad, she’s got a good eye.  I’m keeping my SLR and lenses for it so I’ll be able to keep up with my photography.

I’m writing my own pattern for a gift I’m making for my swap partner.  Couldn’t find one I liked, so I came up with my own.  Won’t win any awards, but it’s cute.

Went to Janes Fiber and Beads on Sat. and bought some cool beads and some fiber to spin.  That stuff is like some kind of crazy addiction to me.  Since I’m home with Chris, I’m going to spin and knit.  And catch up on correspondence. And housework.  Nix that last one.

Weekend

Hi small world, how’s your weekend going?  I met up with a friend from Ravelery yesterday at a coffee shop/bookstore in Abingdon.  Great fun was had although I frogged and played with her adorable baby more than knitting ;-))  My sis, Janet and neice,Nikki stopped by too.  Nik is getting married in a year and they are checking out locations for the wedding and reception.  Janet said Nikki wants a old look.  I suggested Whites Mill or The Martha Washington in Abingdon.  They went by White’s and Nik said it was too old.

Finger is ok, just badly bruised.  Still haven’t got Wilson warped yet, may try that this afternoon.  I’m going to use a worsted weight wool and acrylic blend to make a shawl.  I’ll get something a bit more daring with my next project.  I’ve just worked on others looms, never my own, so warping by myself is a bit intmidating.

Knitting on a adorable baby sweater (in a mainly handspun)  for my greatneice (arrival date in April)  in New Mexico and a beaded project for my Scavenger Hunt swap partner.  Haven’t taken pictures yet, I’ll do it in the next day or so and post.  Hopefully.

Well, it’s Monday

New loom arrived, I couldn’t warp it or weave cause of this stupid hurt finger.  I’ll see one of the doc’s today to see if it is in fact broke.  Still hurts like heck.  I’ve decided to simplify me life and sell some stuff I don’t need or use.  After long consideration, my digital SLR camera will be the first to go.  My dreams of being Ansel Adams just aren’t happening, so my point and shoot cameras are more than adequte.  Next may be my machine quilting frame.  I’ve come to the conclusion that I like to piece the tops, but I don’t like the quilting part.  Well it’s time to go for now, I have to go see a patient.

Flip Wilson has arrived

My Flip loom arrived yesterday.  I’m going to try to warp it and weave some today.  I’m a bit weird in that I name all my toys, so flip the loom has been named Wilson.  Those of us of a certain “age” remember the entertainer Flip Wilson.  So there ya go.  My lendrum spinning wheel is named Mary, Queen of Scots (She was bought by my DH) from Mary Scott at SAFF this past Oct.  My first fiber affair and a great show, if you ever get a chance to go BTW.  My Bernina sewing machine is Bernice.  I’ve not named my knitting needles, too many and they seem to multiply, but then I never have the right size available when I need it.

I think I broke my left middle finger last night. Not flipping anyone off mind you, but trying to break up a dog fight.  Our new dog, an adult German Shepard and my alpha male Pembroke Welch Corgi, just aren’t feeling the love.  I’m not sure how I did it.  I know better than to reach my hands in between two fighting dogs…….   I’ve got to figure out the easy way to post pics so I can post a picture of her.

Well, not actually on the way, but ordered from my wonderful semi-local fiber shop/enabler http://www.janesfiberandbeads.com/.  It will ship from schacht in Colorado on 1/15.  I need to go stash diving to see what I can do first on my own loom!   Isn’t it just wonderful to go wallow in your stash?

Not fiber related, but me related.  I had a heck of a time learning to get a button on my sidebar.  Who thinks up these widgets and stuff?  Who would have thunk a text box was for a image?  An WHO thinks a middle aged woman knows ANYTHING about “code” and how to write it so it works to get a silly image on the sidebar…..  I still don’t know how I finally got it there, and don’t know if I will be able to ever get another one there.  This blogging stuff has something of a learning curve, and I’m no dummy!

Weight wise, I thought I’d blown it over Christmas, but got on the scales yesterday and had maintained!!  Now I need to get back to serious weight loss mode.  I didn’t have this surgery and almost die for nothing!!

P.S.  What are all those other widget thingies?

Hello world!

Me, a blog, HA!  I need one though for swaps sometimes and it could be fun to let friends know what’s going on in my world, so here goes.  I’m a fiber addict – knitting, spinning, weaving(just started) and quilting are my choices.  Occasionally some crochet.  I learned to crochet in the 6th grade, Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Cloyd taught several of us girls how to do it.  Knitting, I learned from a dear friend about 4 years ago.  After my first lesson, I left her house sweating bullets and her sweet (grown daughter) said she didn’t think I liked it.  I swore I wouldn’t let it beat me though and here I am today knitting every day.  I also scrapbook and am addicted to the internet, I love a husband and son and 6 dogs, 2 cats and a sun conure.  Let’s see where this goes, shall we??
